Fort Macleod Alberta Canada

First 2 nights of the next rally we spent in Fort Macleod Alberta (pronounced Fort Ma Cloud).  We wanted to break up the 350+ miles travel and get a chance to see the Head-Smashed-In-Buffalo Jump historic site.  We had a First Nation (Canadian Indian) private tour of the facilities and a beautiful day to explore.  Black Foot tribe still resides in the area and keeps the ancient history going.  The First Nation chosen hunters and tribe would get the buffalo herd directed towards the cliff and then get them spooked and running until they would fall off the edge of the cliff.  The First Nation would sometimes get up to 300 buffalo in an annual drive and it would get them and all the area tribes through the harsh winter, using every part of the buffalo with nothing wasted.  We have many Buffalo Jumps in the US but none as preserved and shown as this one.  The title comes from a teenager who was not allowed to help so he hid in a cave of the wall in the cliff.  Unfortunately, he was killed by the falling buffalo and had his Head-Smashed-In, hence the name.
We also toured Fort Macleod Royal Canadian Mounted Police museum.  More education and interesting but tuned for the school age kids.  As we stopped in town for a bite we met an actual RCMP (Mounties) in the restaurant that was very talkative and interested in our RV lifestyle.  Our plan was to purchase a disposable phone at the local grocery store and use it to text back to the USA.  Unfortunately, they were out of the cheap $25-40 phones and the cheapest one available was $80 with free text and $minute talk charge.  We opted not to purchase.  In the USA we had downloaded a free app TEXT PLUS - and upgraded NEXT PLUS.  Both are free and when in the campground or town, we connect our phone to the local Wi-Fi and can text home for free.  #1 we had to turn out phones to AIRPLANE MODE, so it would not connect to any towers or use data on our existing USA plan.  When Wi-Fi is available we just turn on our Wi-Fi connection and we can still use the TEXT PLUS or internet search for free without using our plan.  The best thing is to put your name after each text so friends/family know who you are as the TEXT PLUS assigns you a different phone number that the text come across on.  Or let them know your number ahead so they can label it.  Our daughter put us as (Mom Canada) so she knows it's me.  The Daisy May Campground was the only campground in the area with electric and water for our ground.  Grass sites and messy when it rains (it did) but luckily we had the choice of 20 sites so we picked the driest and easiest to get our big rigs into for the 2 night stay.
